Indeed, US President Donald Trump confirmed the talks were beginning in a post to his Truth Social platform. Since the announcement of his Liberation Day tariff plan, countries have been carefully formulating their response. Several have sought to renegotiate trade deals with the country, with Japan now joining that growing list. Alternatively, it remains embroiled in an ongoing tariff war with China as import duties on the nation are set to reach heights of 245%.
