Garantex co-founder arrested while on holiday in India, report

A co-founder of the Russian crypto exchange Garantex has reportedly been arrested by police in India under the country’s extradition laws, according to TechCrunch. Kerala State police arrested Aleksej Besciokov at 4pm IST yesterday in the coastal region of Varkala, where he was reportedly holidaying with his family.  Last week, the US charged Besciokov, who is Garantex’s main technical administrator, with facilitating money laundering for transnational criminal organizations and conspiracy to violate sanctions. In conjunction with Germany and Finland, the US also seized Garantex’s online domains . Tornado Cash dev Alex Pertsev set to be released from prison under surveillance

The Tornado Cash developer was arrested in August 2022 by Dutch authorities as part of a criminal investigation against the crypto mixer service. Tornado Cash developer Alex Pertsev is set to be released from jail after spending nearly nine months in prison . Pertsev was arrested in August last year by Dutch authorities on suspicion of being involved in Money Laundering through the crypto mixing service Tornado Cash. Cointelegraph confirmed the news with the people familiar with the matter, and Pertsev is all set to be back home by April 26, which also happens to be his birthday. Crypto industry leaders ‘scared of a strong SEC’ — Senator Warren

Senator Warren claims the Trump Administration “gave a green light” to allow for a cryptocurrency market full of junk tokens, rug pulls and ponzi schemes. United States Senator and crypto skeptic Elizabeth Warren wants the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to “double down” on its crypto enforcement efforts, highlighting that the cryptocurrency industry is running “scared” for what’s to come next. Warren’s comments came from an interview with American Economic Liberties Projects on Jan. 25. The Senator opined that since Gensler was sworn in as SEC Chairman in April, 2021, the Commission “has made a good start” on fixing some of the problems created by the former SEC leaders under the Trump Administration.
